For Valentine's Day we jetted off to Mexico City to spend a couple days there before venturing out to Cuernavaca {a town south of the city} for my cousin's wedding. First thing on my list was Casa Studio Luis Barragán.
Barragán is considered a pioneer in modern architecture in Mexico. His custom made home was brilliantly built to satisfy his need for private spaces and pops of color. I made reservations for the tour a couple weeks in advance, it lasted about 1.5 hrs and was very informative. I've been to Mexico City a few times before and have visited the main museums, I have to say this was one of my absolute favorites.
The house is still maintained by Barragán's original housekeeper. She started working with him when she was in her teens {she is now in her 70's}. She carefully cares for all the plants and fresh flowers inside the house, making sure her arrangements are done according to the late architect's taste.
Tickets are $400.00 pesos for tourists. If you wish to take pictures then a permit must be purchased for a $500.00 pesos. Make sure to arrive on time for your appointment!
Until next time,
N.
